Of current importance18.08.2016 CDIO Initiative is a comprehensive approach to engineering education: a set of basic principles of curriculum development, introduction of new methods of teaching and learning, as well as faculty selection and development. The declared CDIO purpose: the engineer — the university graduate has to be able to think up a new product or new technical idea, to carry out all design works on its embodiment (or to give the necessary instructions to those who will be engaged in it), and to introduce it to the production. Over the past 10 years CDIO Initiative has been followed by more than 115 universities from Europe, North and Latin Americas, Asia, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Africa. The first Russian university to join the Initiative was the Tomsk Polytechnic University; later on the CDIO Standards have been adopted by 11 more Russian universities: Astrakhan State University, Don State Technical University, Kazan Federal University, Siberian Federal University, Ural Federal University, Moscow Aviation Institute, National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radio-electronics, Kazan Federal University - Naberezhnye Chelny Institute.
Introduction of CDIO Standards to the engineering education allows altering substantially the current approach to development and execution of Study Programs and results in strengthening of those graduates’ competences that will significantly enhance their competitiveness in the engineering labor market.
