International Information Group "Interfax" presented the VIII annual National University Ranking (NRA) for 2017

List of the best universities in Russia, as well as a year earlier, headed the Lomonosov Moscow State University. The second place in the list was taken by the National Research Nuclear University "MEPI", the third - St. Petersburg State University.

The ten best Russian universities also include: National Research University "Higher School of Economics" (4th place), Novosibirsk National Research University (5th place), Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (6th place), ITMO University (7th place), National Research Tomsk State University (8th place), Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (9th place), National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University (10th place).

In 2017, the National University Ranking expanded the membership of the participants. In framework of the NRU project, an assessment of 265 leading universities in Russia was made.

The rating includes 29 research universities, 10 federal, 33 core and 8 non-state universities, as well as 21 universities participating in Project 5-100, 96 classical universities, 79 technical and technological universities, 20 economic and social universities, 24 agricultural universities, 5 architectural and construction universities and 2 creative (art) universities, 18 medical universities, 13 pedagogical universities, 4 transport and 4 law universities were evaluated.
